  Citizen Ambassador Travel

Our Citizen ambassador travel programs are designed for groups of interested and socially-minded individuals who want to look behind the scenes and bridge cultural and political borders through education and exchange. Personal interaction and learning are key to these experiences. You will look at the opportunities and challenges of Africans and their nations when it comes to political, economic, developmental, social, environmental, cultural, legal, educational and health-related issues. You will engage in facilitated dialogues and conversations with a variety of hosts that stretch from grassroots organizations and communities to the top level of government, the economy and society. Professional meetings, site visits, community service and academic input are balanced with leisure and pleasure activities, sightseeing, "down time" and an exclusive travel environment.

Our citizen ambassadors have an important role to play. During their stay at the host destination, they represent their home country, allow their hosts a glimpse of the world beyond their own environment, and foster a love of learning and curiosity about the world. Later, when returning home, they become true ambassadors of the people they have met. In many cases, they even develop the desire to do more - to raise awareness, to advocate for change or to become personally involved. This way, they contribute to break down stereotypes and misinformation and help to understand issues beyond what is frequently communicated by the mass media.

Example programs:

  • 'Mission in understanding' - looking behind the scenes of a society by exploring particular subjects or holistic approaches affecting a nation
  • 'Development as freedom' - approaching development and poverty reduction in a holistic way along the lines of Nobel laureate Amartya Sen's influential thesis
  • 'Understanding humanitarian issues' - exploring subjects related to poverty, civil war and armed conflict, child soldiers, human trafficking etc
